Defence Relationship Management

On the 26th November 2019,  PCMS received the Bronze Award under the Defence Relationship Management (DRM) Employer Recognition Scheme. This signals our intention to support defence personnel and their families.

On receiving the award, the PCMS Managing Director said: “As a veteran myself, it is extremely pleasing to be able to show our commitment to those who have served, are  transitioning and their families. We are lucky to have a team consisting of veterans from all three services, and we want to continue to grow our team across all areas of the business. We look forward to a positive working relationship with DRM in the future”.

On Monday 3rd August 2020, PCMS were one of 38 London based organisations to receive the Defence Relationship Management (DRM) Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award. This further demonstrates our commitment to the armed forces community and the Armed Forces Covenant.

When news of the award came in, PCMS Managing Director Phil Coates said: “It has been an exciting time working with Defence Relationship Management and it is an absolute privilege to receive this award for PCMS. Our support for the armed forces community doesn’t stop here and we will continue our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant. Congratulations to the other 37 organisations who received the Silver ERS 2020 Award”.

What we are currently doing in support of the Armed Forces Community

As an organisation, we currently employ  six veterans: four Royal Navy, one Army and one RAF. Additionally we have employed a military spouse as we seek to grow and extend our support to the Armed Forces community.

We actively recruit from the Armed Forces Community and advertise vacancies on the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) website, Forces Families Jobs website, as well as in the Forces into Health group on LinkedIn.

Our recruitment policy reflects our commitment to supporting Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, whereby we offer an additional five days paid leave to employees in these categories.

What do our veterans say?

I joined PCMS at The Mandeville Practice in December 2019 as an Emergency Practitioner and I am learning a different aspect of healthcare which I was not confident in before.

I enjoy it, as it makes me feel that I am helping people, I may be the only contact they have had for weeks so being able to visit them and treat them is a positive part of my new role.

Joining Primary Care was the best career decision I have made. I am happier, I am further trained to become a more advanced practitioner and I feel I am able to give more and do more for may patients. I fully support the vision and direction PCMS has for the community we treat.
Emergency Practitioner
PCMS actively seeks out ex-military personnel due to their robustness and work ethic. Being ex-RN myself, I feel PCMS is very supportive to my needs and that of the team. I have had a number of jobs since leaving the RN and I believe the reasons for this were due to me being unsettled. As the Managing Director is ex-RN, he has built a core network of trusted ex-military colleagues, with many of the management team hailing from a military background. I feel that PCMS is an extension to my military career and not a job where I simply have work colleagues. I now have the opportunity to work with my 'oppos' which is invaluable and more importantly, I have regained my purpose.
Practice Management Consultant
Having been an employee of PCMS for a number of months now, I find them to an extremely supportive and understanding employer. They have an excellent management structure and really look after all of their employees particularly from a welfare perspective. Incentives such as the employee of the month award together with the flexibility to adjust my hours and work from home regularly, have improved my work-life balance whilst ensuring greater workload efficiency and output.
